With VolID you can modify your disk drive`s serial number which is also called volume ID (not hard disk`s physical serial which you can find at back of your hard disk).
Pros: With VolID you can modify your disk drive`s serial number which is also called volume ID (not hard disk`s physical serial which you can find at back of your hard disk) , the format of volume ID is: XXXX-XXXX (X maybe 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F). The interface consists of a panel that talks about the numbering scheme. Beyond that there are three fields that control what you want to do. The first one is a drop down list of drives on the system. One can choose which one needs the id to be changed. The second box reads out the current volume id. User can type in the new number required in the given format. Click on modify changes the number while restore will reverse the process. Exit button closes the application.
Changes on the NTFS volumes are not effective until system is re-booted. In addition, you should shut down any applications you have running before changing a volume ID.
Cons: Unless you are absolutely certain of what you are trying to achieve the operation can lead to trouble. Be absolutely sure of why you are trying to change the id and to what value. Restore is available hopefully to get you out of the situation.
Overall: This is a single click operation wizard like application. It does what it sets out to do of course. A rating of 3 stars is more than adequate.
